Create a new project in iMovie
After loading the files into iMovie, we need to create a new project, choose File -> New Project and name it. If your footage is widescreen, ensure you choose the ‘Widescreen (16:9)’ option.

to search your song title. When you find it, just drag it to your project window and drop it in the gray area, the music shows up as a green area behind the project window.

Add sound effect to a movie
To add sound effect, click
to go to sound effect browser. It will list hundreds of sound effects of iLife, and you could select a sound effect and press space bar to preview. Then drag the clip over specific video clip until you find the frame which you want the sound to begin play, and release the mouse. Place the cursor beneath the viewing window at the place in the movie where you want to split the clip into two. And right click mouse to choose "Split Clip".
